Design Prototyping Technologies Releases Prototyping Guide for Industrial Designers and Manufacturers

Business Wire, Feb 28, 2008

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Design Prototyping Technologies, a leading provider of rapid prototyping and low-volume manufacturing services, today announced the release of "A Practical Guide to Prototyping." The guide is a quick reference tool for industrial designers and manufacturing engineers who outsource RP services and speed new products to market.

"Advances in rapid prototyping have increased the wide-spread adoption of this engineering tool," said DPT president Mike Rufo. "With more than 50 rapid prototyping processes to choose from and hundreds of materials, the guide offers an at-a-glance review of the most commonly used technologies for rapid product development."

The fully illustrated document describes each of the major rapid prototyping technologies in relation to material performance and processing while identifying RP solutions for the following applications:

* focus group and presentation models

* form, fit and functional testing models

* plastic and metal part rapid tooling patterns

* plastic and metal prototypes

* injection molded parts and low-volume production

In addition, the guide reviews how chord tolerance (deviation) and angular control (angle tolerance) impact STL file resolution and how CAD program output settings can improve STL file resolution and correct faceting issues.

"We will continually update this prototyping guide to meet the diversity of needs in this growing base of industries and applications," Rufo added.

"A Practical Guide to Prototyping" is available at www.dpt-fast.com/guide. Other popular downloads include "Raid Prototyping Process Selection Guide," "RP Material Comparison Chart" and "Chart of Urethane Materials."
