Dr. Stefan Winkler to Speak on Quality of Experience (QoE) - An Important Measure of Success for IP-Based Video Services
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Symmetricom, Inc. (NASDAQ:SYMM), today announced that Dr. Stefan Winkler, principal technologist for Symmetricom's QoE Assurance Division, is presenting his paper, "Measuring Quality of Experience for Video Services," at the SMPTE and VSF 2008 Joint Conference taking place February 10-13, 2008 in Houston, TX.
The SMPTE and VSF Joint Conference is three days of informative technical sessions on the latest technologies, including digital content quality, acquisition and distribution, issues on IPTV, as well as hot topics such as streaming media and podcasting.
Dr. Winkler's presentation is part of the session, "IPTV to the Home Network and Metadata Challenges, Case Studies, and Solutions." This session explores networking and metadata for IPTV-to-the-home, presents a case study, and finally looks at measuring the results in terms of the Quality of Experience of the home viewer. This session is for anyone wanting an update on IPTV-to-the-home.

One of the world's top experts in digital media quality, Dr. Winkler serves as a principal technologist at Symmetricom's QoE Assurance Division. He was formerly chief scientist and co-founder of Genista Corporation, a provider of quality assurance solutions for IPTV and mobile media. He has also held assistant professor positions at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and has worked for Hewlett-Packard, Siemens, German Aerospace and Andersen Consulting. Dr. Winkler has published more than 40 papers on perceptual quality measurement and is the author of the book, "Digital Video Quality." He has also been a member and contributor of the Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG) since its founding in 1997. Dr. Winkler holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Technology in Vienna, Austria and a doctorate from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.
