Virginia Man Wins $5,000 for Story of How Duct Tape Saved the Day
Business Wire, Jan 15, 2008
-Henkel Corporation Announces Winners of Its Saves the Day Promotion-
AVON, Ohio -- Whether it saved the day at a family outing, conquered a traveling mishap or salvaged an outdoor adventure, nearly everyone has their own story of how duct tape came to their rescue. For the last seven months, people across the country entered their duct tape "saves the day" stories with the hope that their unique tale might win them the first place prize in the Duck[R] brand Duct Tape Saves the Day Promotion sponsored by Henkel Corporation. It was Dan Gardner, from Gladstone, Va., who took home the $5,000 grand prize and a year's supply of Duck[R] brand duct tape for his handy use of duct tape.
During the contest period, more than 2,650 stories from the United States and Canada were submitted, providing a variety of creative, original and inventive uses for America's favorite fix-all, ranging from in-a-bind automotive applications to quick fixes on the road to clever home repair remedies. Gardner's story included the use of duct tape, disposable diapers and antibiotic ointment to save the life of an injured horse, which had become lame due to severe hoof damage.
Rather than destroy the horse, the rescue facility that Gardner was volunteering at decided to try to save its life. "After two years and hundreds of rolls of duct tape, the horse made a full recovery," said Gardner. "Today the horse is my youngest daughter's foxhunter and event horse."
In addition to Gardner, 10 additional winners were chosen at random and received $500 as well as a year's supply of Duck[R] brand duct tape.
