Colfax International Announces a New Line of Cost-effective InfiniBand-Based Cluster Solutions for Mainstream Applications
Business Wire, Jan 28, 2008
Affordable World-Class InfiniBand 10Gb/s Performance for Personal and Workgroup Clustering Solutions
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Colfax International, a global supplier of fully-customizable, high-performance workstations, servers, clusters, and storage solutions, today announced the availability of cost-effective InfiniBand products packaged for mainstream usage. The package can be purchased separately or integrated with system offerings from Colfax. The package consists of 10Gb/s InfiniBand adapters, cables and switches and is priced to bring supercomputer performance to mainstream applications such as multi player gaming, automotive, oil and gas, education, engineering and more.
As CPU multi-core technology becomes the natural building block for every compute system, be they servers or workstations, the associated increase in I/O requirements mandate the use of high-throughput interconnects. Low-throughput I/O restricts CPU performance and reduces the overall systems capabilities, resulting in long simulation run-time, waste of educational learning time, poor digital media or end-user gaming experience. The new offering from Colfax extends the InfiniBand availability from high-performance computing to every day computing applications and usage.
"Our new line of InfiniBand products give our customers using conventional applications the capabilities of high performance computing at affordable pricing," said Gautam Shah, president and CEO of Colfax International. "While we continue to provide high-end 20Gb/s InfiniBand based clusters, we are now offering low-cost 10Gb/s InfiniBand that can also be used as a personal kit for gaming, education, digital media and traditional workgroup applications."
The new InfiniBand offerings include the Mellanox 10Gb/s InfiniBand MHES14-XTC adapter ($125), Mellanox InfiniBand cables, and Flextronics ODM 8-port and 24-port SDR InfiniBand switches ($750 and $2400 respectively). Users may purchase these products separately or pre-installed as part of a cluster solution from Colfax.
"We are pleased to collaborate with Colfax to bring the performance capabilities of Mellanox InfiniBand based solutions into the personal and workgroup cluster solutions," said Gilad Shainer, Director of Technical Marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "InfiniBand's proven capabilities are now within reach of schools for better efficiency, small businesses for better productivity, and even gamers for a new level of gaming experience."
