Business Wire, Jan 30, 2008
Strong Market Performance in Q3 2007
PLANO, Texas -- GENBAND Inc., a market-leading developer of next-generation media gateways and application solutions, today announced that independent analyst firm Synergy Research Group, Inc. (SRG), an industry leader for networking and telecom market research, has named GENBAND the current market share leader for wireless VoIP media gateway ports shipped for wireless deployments worldwide.
In the third quarter of 2007, GENBAND shipped more media gateway ports for wireless deployments worldwide than any other telecom and networking equipment manufacturers participating in the study, capturing 49% of the market, according to SRG. In the Asia/Pacific region, which accounts for more than 80% of all wireless media gateway sales, GENBAND supplied 50.3% of all ports shipped. The study included all significant providers worldwide of media gateway ports for wireless deployments.
"GENBAND holds an impressive worldwide leadership position within the wireless media gateway market," said Jeremy Duke, president and CEO of Synergy Research Group, Inc. "They have made smart strategic decisions over the last few years, which has allowed them to fill a need in this market."
"GENBAND's success in the wireless sector is driven by a number of compelling factors," said Charles Vogt, president and CEO of GENBAND. "We offer one of the broadest gateway portfolios in the industry, many with unmatched IP capabilities for the growing wireless market. The advancement of more and more IP-based, multimedia applications on mobile networks is driving operators to make forward thinking capital investments."
GENBAND will showcase its G9 Converged Media Gateway(TM) in its booth (#2A115) at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, February 11-14, 2008. The G9 is a true next-generation platform that builds upon the company's first-generation system, the worldwide market share-leading 8000 Media Gateway(TM), deployed in carrier networks across the globe. The G9 platform's support of secure IP, TDM, and asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) architectures makes the G9 platform ideal for operators transitioning gradually to IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) networks without requiring the costly replacement of existing network equipment. The G9 Converged Media Gateway provides a new market standard for price-performance, flexibility, and scalability for both mobile and fixed line carriers.
