Gemstar-TV Guide Signs Multi-Year IPG License Agreement for Select Polaroid Consumer Electronics Products
Business Wire, Jan 7, 2008
Polaroid to be the First Company to deploy TV Guide's latest CE IPG Product, Data Loader
LOS ANGELES -- Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. (NASDAQ: GMST), a leading media, entertainment and technology company, has signed a multi-year IPG product license agreement with Polaroid Labs. The agreement gives Polaroid the right to incorporate Gemstar-TV Guide's interactive program guides (IPGs), including the newest IPG product, "Data Loader," into select DVRs and digital televisions manufactured by Polaroid, a leading consumer electronics company, and a division of Petters Group.
Polaroid is the first consumer electronics company to deploy TV Guide's Data Loader, a full featured version of Gemstar-TV Guide's full-scale programming guide. The Data Loader IPG permits the TV Guide customer to develop their own Graphical User Interface that allows a unique on-screen guide.
"In addition to continuing to show the value the marketplace sees in our IPG products, this agreement with Polaroid signifies Gemstar-TV Guide's commitment to providing new and unique IPG products that are tailored to the specific needs of our CE customers," said Thomas Carson, president, North American IPGs, Gemstar-TV Guide.
Polaroid will begin launching TV Guide's Data Loader IPG in its products beginning in early 2008. The Data Loader IPG will initially be available in Polaroid's line of DVR products. Moving forward, Gemstar-TV Guide and Polaroid are committed to looking for opportunities to include the IPG in a range of Polaroid's TV products.
