GetREAL Coalition Advisory: Reach the Stars at the 2008 CTE Summit
Business Wire, Jan 8, 2008
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- An exciting program including NASA's Constellation Program and the "Orion" crew exploration vehicle, nationally recognized education reformers, student exhibits showcasing robotics, construction and other career skills, will launch the first annual "Reaching the Stars" Career Technical Education Summit on January 15, 2008 at the Sacramento Convention Center. The Summit is sponsored by GetREAL, a coalition of business, education and labor leaders, and the day's lineup will address ways to revitalize career technical education throughout California's public schools.
The all-day event will include a keynote luncheon address by author Ken Gray; testimonials from educators and students; speeches from Lieutenant Gov. John Garamendi and State Superintendent of Schools, Jack O'Connell, as well as a policy development session with leading California legislators. Surrounding the summit floor will be hands-on student displays ranging from a student-built race car, engineering and robotics exhibits, to student-constructed playhouses and agricultural and animal science innovations.
Highlighting the event will be a NASA exhibit, showcasing the Constellation Program's Orion crew exploration vehicle model -- the new spacecraft designed for flights to the Moon and eventually to support missions to Mars. The NASA panel will discuss the urgent need for technicians and other skilled workers throughout aerospace and other cutting-edge industries.
