European eCall Market Faces Crucial Year for Fast Action or Telematics Failure

Business Wire, Jan 9, 2008

LONDON -- The Automotive & Transportation Group at Frost & Sullivan is pleased to announce its 2008 Quarterly Analyst Briefing Presentation on the European eCall market to be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 3:00 pm GMT.

The briefing will discuss the current state of the European Commission's (EC) initiative to install eCall in all vehicles by September 2010. Most notably, the EC must discuss the standardization of numerous technical aspects to overcome these challenges to the eCall initiative. Given the present market scenario, the market is expected to take off after 2012.

Highlights of the briefing include: analysis of key trends in the eCall market, market sizing for eCall systems, trends toward integrated telematics platforms and profiles of key vehicle manufacturers.

"With the European Commission setting its target on a late 2010 implementation, it is imperative that the member states sign the MoU completely and there is cooperation between the government, OEMs in that country and telecom providers to work in unison to set up the necessary infrastructure to enable the implementation," notes Frost & Sullivan Industry Manager N. Praveen Chandrasekar. "This includes stepping up the current PSAPs to handle E 112 calls from purely 112 calls and further on also handle eCalls."
