Market Research Report Highlights AirMagnet as Pioneer in the Development of Voice over Wi-Fi Applications
Business Wire, Jan 9, 2008
AirMagnet Identified by ABI Research as a Market Leader for its WLAN Intrusion Detection and Protection Systems, and VoWLAN Analysis and Management Tools
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- A recent report released by ABI Research ("The Voice Over Wi-Fi Ecosystem: Identifying Market Leaders and Followers," by Stan Schatt and Clint Wheelock) has identified AirMagnet as one of the pioneers in the Voice over Wi-Fi space. The report provides a complete outline of this space, including specific market breakdowns and information about how vendors stack up in regard to innovation and implementation. AirMagnet is credited not only with developing one of the first intrusion detection and protection systems for wireless LANs, but as the first vendor to offer analysis and management tools for the deployment of voice over Wi-Fi (AirMagnet's VoFi Analyzer).
"Voice over Wi-Fi requires an entirely new set of tools for analysis and management. One of the first entrants has been AirMagnet with its VoFi Analyzer. What makes this product so interesting is that it is not just a redesigned data product but is built from scratch to handle voice problems. Among them are identification of excessive roaming, overloaded access points and channels, dropped calls, busy lines, and high packet error rates," noted Stan Schatt, vice president and research director at ABI Research.
AirMagnet VoFi Analyzer is the leading tool for managing and troubleshooting voice deployments across a wireless LAN. The product utilizes a completely new concept for understanding and resolving issues associated with VoWLAN deployment, collecting and integrating voice-related data from three different sources - air, phone and wire - to deliver the only comprehensive view of the entire enterprise connection. VoFi Analyzer directly samples wireless voice traffic, delivering an unbiased, third party perspective on the quality between a given phone and the wireless infrastructure, as well as a simultaneous view into both sides of the call (access point to phone and phone to access point). The product leverages patent-pending technology to calculate wireless call quality and detect voice problems - even on fully encrypted networks and traffic - thus ensuring network staff can instantly diagnose and correct problems without compromising security.
Schatt continues, "The company has broken new ground by extending packet analysis to encrypted voice traffic carried over a Wi-Fi network. Because the analyzer can communicate with call managers from Vocera, Cisco, and SpectraLink, it can capture directory information and evaluate calls (including employee names) in terms of the link between access point and client and the MOS (Mean Opinion Score) or quality of the call. The enterprise requirements for good quality voice calls means that tools must be available to troubleshoot a particular call's unacceptable quality. Currently, there are no immediate competitors to AirMagnet when it comes to the monitoring of voice calls."
