ICx Wins $14 Million Cerberus Mobile Surveillance Towers Contract for U.S. Army
Business Wire, July 1, 2008
Contract is Part of the Asymmetric Warfare Office's BETSS-Program
WASHINGTON -- ICx Technologies (NASDAQ:ICXT), a developer of advanced sensor technologies for homeland security, force protection and commercial applications, announced today that it has been awarded a $14 million contract as part of the U.S Army's multi-billion dollar Base Expeditionary Targeting and Surveillance Sensors-Combined (BETSS-C) program, which is run by the Asymmetric Warfare Office.
ICx' Cerberus towers are fully integrated mobile surveillance units that combine advanced, high-resolution radars with thermal and imaging cameras on a common software platform, making it easier to identify and track potential intruders. ICx developed Cerberus jointly with the Army's RDECOM, CERDEC Night Vision, Electronic Sensors Directorate and Customs and Border Patrol. Twenty-two Cerberus units will be deployed to provide advanced security by providing superior situational awareness on flexible, mobile platforms for bases in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"Our military is facing the new reality of asymmetric warfare that requires superior situational awareness. Combining and integrating advanced sensors on mobile platforms will become an increasingly important tool for our troops to fight those challenges," said Adam Strange, president of ICx Tactical Platforms. "We are proud to leverage the technology we developed for our border defense for this important defense program."
