Business Wire, July 15, 2008
Company Honored at Awards Ceremony for Innovative Application of Leading-Edge Technology in Pharmaceutical Industry
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Blue Vector, the leader in truly distributed edge processing for sensor networks, today announced that it won a 2008 START-IT Technology and Business (T&B) Enabler Award for demonstrated success in helping a pharmaceutical company to overcome a challenge and solve a critical business issue through the innovative use of leading-edge technology. The company received the award at an awards dinner and ceremony at the Westin Chicago North Shore Hotel in Wheeling, Illinois.
Blue Vector customer ASD Healthcare--a division of AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group and the leading distributor of specialty life-saving pharmaceuticals--was also honored at the awards ceremony, taking top honors in the Pharmaceutical category. Enabling a real-time view into the inventory and conditions of life-saving pharmaceuticals in over 70 hospitals, Blue Vector worked with ASD to develop one of the largest RFID-enabled remote inventory management implementations in the world. Integrating with ASD's existing systems to allow ASD to automatically re-order inventory, Blue Vector's Edge Manager network appliances--embedded inside each of ASD's Cubixx[TM] refrigerated pharmaceutical consignment units--controls the RFID equipment, collects temperature information, detects the opening and closing of the refrigerator, and creates events and alerts for any activities of interest that are securely transmitted back to ASD's customer service and fulfillment systems.
"The manufacturers being honored here tonight truly define 'excellence in manufacturing,' and have learned the value of using innovative solutions from the industry's top-notch technology providers," said Peggy Smedley, editorial director of START-IT. "It is important to recognize these success stories, and we want to congratulate all of tonight's winners on their superior achievements."
"It's an honor to be selected as a winner of START-IT's Technology and Business Enabler award and an even greater honor to enable ASD Healthcare to realize their vision of applying leading-edge technology to create an innovative Vendor Managed Inventory model," said Mike Gardner, Blue Vector president and CEO. "In the pharmaceutical industry, tracking high-value assets is a complex and costly challenge, particularly when you're dealing with temperature-sensitive drugs with a limited shelf-life in a highly distributed supply chain environment. With Blue Vector, companies like ASD Healthcare can meet these challenges with our unique 'sense and respond' intelligent network technology, enabling cost-effective, accurate, and efficient real-time monitoring and management throughout all links of their supply chain."
