Luminant Continues to Advance New Carbon-Control Technologies

Company to Participate in Department of Energy Partnership Project

DALLAS -- Luminant has continued to invest in and support emerging emission-reduction technologies by participating in a Department of Energy (DOE) partnership project to advance carbon-capture technology.

Luminant is one of several energy companies who have committed to project funding for the advancement of technology under development by ADA-ES, Inc. ADA-ES was recently notified by the DOE's National Energy Technology Laboratory that it had been selected to negotiate a contract to develop a technology that will capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from coal-fueled power plants.

"This is a significant commitment for us, but moreover, it is indicative of our effort to explore new and innovative emerging technologies that will help generate cleaner, more efficient energy," said Steve Horn, Luminant's vice president of technology and operational readiness.

Luminant and ADA-ES have previously worked together in developing similar technology, which captures carbon through the use of solid sorbent materials. This process, which soaks up the CO2 much as a sponge would, requires less energy than other technologies.

"The entire industry will benefit because this research has now been opened up to collaborative funding," Horn said.

ADA-ES will be performing additional tests at several of the involved companies.
