DynCorp International Builds Mine Awareness in Afghanistan

FALLS CHURCH, Va. -- In a corporate goodwill initiative, DynCorp International is helping a non-profit organization teach Afghan children to avoid mines and unexploded ordnance.

DynCorp International is working with the Organization for Mine Clearance and Afghan Rehabilitation (OMAR) to reduce casualties from mines - a dangerous legacy of years of conflict in Afghanistan.

OMAR converted a small jet plane into a classroom for children, and DynCorp provided audio-visual equipment, including a DVD player and a flat-screen television. More than 2,000 Afghan children in the Kabul area have learned about the hazards of handling or playing with mines or unexploded ordnance.

OMAR was established in Kabul in 1990 solely as a mine awareness organization, but has since also been involved with mine clearance. It has received a U.S. Department of State grant for mine awareness work in Afghanistan.

Under contract to the Department of State, DynCorp International is supporting mine clearance, weapons removal and abatement in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Lebanon, Georgia, and Paraguay.
