MGA Entertainment Announces That Bloomberg Story Corrects Timeline for Bratz Drawings in Designer's Notebook

Business Wire, July 7, 2008

The drawings were found in designer Carter Bryant's notebook, which contained material from 1998 and 1999, but Bryant testified the drawings were created in 1998, while he was not an employee of Mattel and living in Missouri with his family

LOS ANGELES -- According to MGA Entertainment, Bloomberg News corrected a June 21st story that incorrectly stated, among other mistakes, that the original drawings for the Bratz dolls designed by Carter Bryan were determined to be designed in 1999. That statement is retracted and the story merely states that Bryant's drawings were contained in a notebook that contained 1999 banking information. However, Bryant testified in court that the notebook also contained material from both 1998 and 1999, and that he made the original designs in 1998 while he was living at home in Missouri with his family and not employed at Mattel.

"We are pleased that Bloomberg News corrected the mistakes in the original story and the timeline so the facts are now correct," said Isaac Larian, CEO and President of MGA Entertainment.

MGA Entertainment claims that the articles' headline was incorrect to state that it was determined that the drawings were created in 1999. Lloyd Cunningham, a forensic document examiner and an expert witness for Mattel, testified last week in federal court in the Mattel versus MGA Entertainment Riverside, California, that he was told by a Mattel attorney to only identify certain facts that favor Mattel and ignore other facts that are relevant to the case.

MGA Entertainment, with corporate headquarters in Van Nuys, California is a global consumer entertainment products company and the owner of Bratz dolls.
