Sorenson Champions Challenge Raises More Than $80,000 for Charity
Business Wire, July 9, 2008
Money Raised From the Tournament's Silent Auction Will Benefit Two Non-Profit Organizations That Focus on Educational and Athletic Opportunities for Children
SALT LAKE CITY -- The 2008 Sorenson Champions Challenge announced today that the event raised more than $80,000 to be shared by Art Works for Kids and the ANNIKA Foundation, non-profit organizations that enrich the lives of children. The tournament, which included a silent auction to benefit the two charities, took place June 16 and 17 at Thanksgiving Point Golf Club.
"In the excitement of having a field of some of golf's greatest champions competing with their sons, sisters and friends on a beautiful day, it's sometimes easy to overlook the more meaningful purpose of the event," said Johnny Miller, founder of the Champions Challenge and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. "The 2008 Sorenson Champions Challenge is proud to support two organizations that inspire children to achieve their best."
Art Works for Kids is an arts education advocacy organization that works to enrich the lives of Utah children with high-quality, innovative and sequential arts education. Founded by Beverley Taylor Sorenson, Art Works for Kids serves as a catalyst and advocate for quality arts education by providing grants and support services to universities, school districts and community arts organizations.
The ANNIKA Foundation, created by golf legend Annika Sorenstam, enables youth in need to participate in the game of golf and helps aspiring junior golfers pursue their dreams. The organization provides scholarships, education and new playing opportunities for young golf enthusiasts.
"The Sorenson Group is thrilled to support an event that benefits so many children right here in Utah--and around the world," said James Lee Sorenson, CEO of The Sorenson Group, title sponsor of the Champions Challenge for the second year. "As much as I love the game of golf, I love the opportunity to make a lasting difference for children."
