LimeWire Store Launches Live at Lime Recording Series

Business Wire,  July 9, 2008

NEW YORK -- Fresh out of the LimeWire think tank comes Live at Lime, a recording series by noteworthy indie artists that will be available exclusively through LimeWire Store. Sessions began in June and have produced EPs by The Morning Benders, Sloan, Tigers and Monkeys, and Lucy Wainwright Roche. Click here, here, and here, for session art. The EPs will be available to purchase as stand-alone titles or used to drive sales of full length releases. Initial sessions took place at Headgear Studios in Brooklyn, birthplace of records by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The National, TV on the Radio, and Son Volt, among others.

"With Live at Lime, we wanted to bring some of our favorite artists into the studio and have them create fun, unique recordings for their fans and our customers. The idea is to give the artists a chance to play around, experiment with their arrangements, change up the instrumentation, and lay down some spontaneous tracks that are truly unique to that moment in time," says Tom Monday, Director of Partner Relations for the LimeWire Store. "The interest from artists and labels has been pretty overwhelming. I think a lot of artists really love the chance to come in and, without a lot of pressure or direction, create something new for their fans. It's been really fun to watch the process and the results are unbelievable.

"There's a certain D.I.Y. feel to these sessions that's refreshing, especially in an industry that's increasingly scrubbed, polished, and packaged. There's a realness to Live at Lime that comes through in the finished product- the tracks are sometimes a little rough, the cover art consists of snapshots taken at the end of the session or a sketch by the artist, as is the case with Lucy Wainwright Roche, and there's no predetermined set list. There's definitely a sense that we're creating something special in the hours spent together," says Monday.
