* Powerful combination of business service management (BSM) and capacity management tools optimize IT resources to achieve business objectives
HOUSTON -- BMC Software (NYSE:BMC) today announced the latest release of BMC Performance Assurance for Mainframes, enabling customers to quickly and easily assess the financial impact of their mainframe IT decisions.
Resource provisioning is a constant struggle for many organizations as they try to balance purchasing the optimal amount of resources with meeting service level demands. A recent BMC industry survey result indicated more than 83 percent of large mainframe shops expect MIPS growth and 70 percent expect software spending increases, giving customers increased incentives to efficiently manage mainframe workloads. Additionally, BMC Performance Assurance for Mainframes incorporates the benefits of virtualization by enabling customers to model Linux workloads on the mainframe.
"The current focus on improving datacenter productivity while reining in costs continues to favor mainframe computing," said Rich Ptak, founder and principal analyst, Ptak, Noel and Associates. "Increasingly complex applications to deliver business critical services accompanied by more stringent performance SLA's has increased the use of specialized processors. High demand and heavier workloads mean that capacity management has become more critical just as enterprises face the retirement of mainframe experts at this task. BMC continues to display leadership thinking as it uniquely addresses the challenges of providing automated solutions to perform critical management functions."
The recognized leader in performance reporting and capacity management for 30 years, BMC predicts with great certainty the performance impact of business changes on IT resources. Implementing the new capabilities within BMC Performance Assurance for Mainframes alleviates "guess work" and allows organizations to more accurately predict the impact of offloading work from general processors to specialty engines. The solution also allows customers to associate business metrics with IT data to predict and model their environments. This gives IT the ability to demonstrate the business value it brings to the organization and link more closely as a partner with the business. Without this solution, customers must test resource allocations in real time, leading to unplanned outages and significant costs.
"IT executives are under pressure to optimize the resources under their control and bring quantifiable value to the business services they support," said Bill Miller, senior vice president and general manager of BMC Mainframe Service Management business unit. "BMC capacity management solutions allow our customers to realize significant financial and time benefits and further capitalize on the capabilities of their mainframe systems."
YRC Worldwide, a leading provider of global transportation services, transportation management solutions and logistics management, is one of the newest adopters of BMC Performance Assurance for Mainframes.
"Managing clients globally means our business demands IT availability 24 hours a day," said Kim Galway, senior performance capacity and availability consultant, YRC Worldwide. "Working with BMC Performance Assurance for Mainframes allows us to minimize technology performance outages and optimize IT performance to ensure our customers get what they need when they need it."
