Media Alert: Check Point Protects Against New Microsoft Vulnerabilities

Business Wire, June 10, 2008

Updates to Check Point SmartDefense services secure enterprise networks from latest attacks

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Check Point[R] Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced that through Check Point SmartDefense[R] services, users of VPN-1[R] NGX R62, NGX R65, and VSX NGX R65 gateways are protected from new Microsoft vulnerabilities disclosed today. SmartDefense subscribers gain immediate protection against Active Directory, Pragmatic General Multicast (PGM), DirectX, WINS, and ActiveX vulnerabilities well before deploying the patches provided by Microsoft.

The vulnerabilities were announced today in Microsoft Security Bulletin for June and affect users of Microsoft Windows based desktops, laptops and servers (for a full list of vulnerable products visit: www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx). When exploited, the vulnerabilities allow remote hackers to execute malicious code on a targeted system and denial of service (DoS) attacks.

"It often takes several weeks for enterprises to deploy patches on all their Microsoft machines," said Juliette Sultan, head of global marketing at Check Point. "Businesses cannot afford to go unprotected for so long. Check Point SmartDefense services close an attacker's window of opportunity by providing immediate protection against the latest threats."

Check Point released SmartDefense updates for the following vulnerabilities announced today by Microsoft:

* Active Directory vulnerability (Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-035)

* Pragmatic General Multicast vulnerabilities (MS08-036)

* DirectX vulnerability (MS08-033)

* WINS vulnerability (MS08-034)

* Speach API ActiveX vulnerability (MS08-032)

Check Point's SmartDefense services maintain the most current preemptive security for the Check Point security infrastructure. To help defenses stay continuously ahead of today's constantly evolving threat landscape, SmartDefense provides ongoing and real-time updates and configuration advisories for defenses and security policies.
