Frost & Sullivan Recognizes Redline Communications for Its Innovative Mobile WiMAX Products, Designed to Greatly Benefit Both Subscribers and Operators
Business Wire, June 11, 2008
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Based on its recent analysis of the mobile WiMAX market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Redline Communications, Inc. with the 2008 North American Product Innovation Award.
Its innovative RedMAX 4C[TM] family of Mobile WiMAX technologies allow easy integration with its existing RedMAX[TM] products to maximize the coverage range and increase capacity. The product suite ensures high quality-of-service (QoS) and high return on investment (ROI) for subscribers and operators respectively.
Redline Communications' RedMAX 4C is designed based on the IEEE 802.16e standard for Mobile WiMAX to create an IP-based mobile WiMAX platform and consists of a family of base stations and subscriber devices that operate in 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz licensed frequency spectrums. Separate modems even allow for different usage models - RedMAX 4C RPM (RedMAX Personal Modem) for indoor deployment and RedMAX 4C REM (RedMAX Enterprise Modem) for outdoor deployment.
"After the wide deployment of fixed WiMAX base stations and customer premises equipment (CPE) based on IEEE 802.16d-2004, mobility has become the next focus," says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Yin Fern Ko. "Now, mobile WiMAX based on IEEE 802.16e-2005 provides users with high data rate and a bandwidth wireless network while they are on the move."
To optimize its performance and deliver high throughput, RedMAX adopts its fourth generation cross layer approach to maximize network performance. It incorporates the physical layer (OSI Layer 1) and medium access control (MAC) (OSI Layer 2) technologies, to implement a time division duplex (TDD) OFDMA-based WiMAX system. The end-to-end signal chain is then controlled from the radio to the core network. This method ensures low latency for real-time multimedia applications. Furthermore, power loss is eliminated by replacing the coaxial cables for connecting the chassis and remote radios with fiber optic cables.
"RedMAX enables personal broadband, real-time multimedia applications, e-learning, and location-based services to support data, voice, and video applications at all times with seamless connectivity," notes Ko. "The technology is designed to provide high-speed broadband connectivity for users from all walks of life, in both the residential and commercial worlds."
Considering the need to overcome the vendor-centric environment, Redline Communications has taken the Open Base Station Architecture Initiative (OBSAI) into consideration to control the bridge between RAN and IP networks. The OBSAI is incorporated with the microTCA (Threshing Crossing Alerts) standards to be compliant with WiMAX specifications.
Redline Communications is committed to continuously improving the WiMAX system for both fixed and mobile access, to accommodate the needs of the emerging market and of users. To date, more than 100,000 Redline Communications' wireless broadband systems have been deployed by incumbent carriers in more than 85 countries. A principle member of the WiMAX Forum, Redline Communications was among the first to market 802.16 compliant products. The company also emphasizes interoperability for carrier-class access and backhaul solutions.
With its strong technology background and cross layer approach, Redline Communications has successfully gained confidence from operators while continuously looking to improve its technology. In recognition of its RedMAX 4C product family that supports the current most high-demand applications such as VoIP, real-time video, and online gaming, Redline Communications is the deserving recipient of the 2008 Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation in the field of mobile WiMAX.
Each year Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within their industry. The recipient company has shown innovation by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
