Doe & Ingalls of North Carolina Announces cGMP-Compliant Cold Storage at Maryland Service Center

Business Wire,  June 11, 2008

DURHAM, N.C. -- Doe & Ingalls of North Carolina, a Durham, North Carolina-based chemical supply chain manager and distributor, announces the addition of a cGMP-compliant 2-8[deg] C cold room for off-site storage of biomanufacturing components. Located at its Jessup, Maryland facility, the cold room is a first in biotechnology chemical distribution, allowing customers to have material available with quick turnaround but without the expense of having to build and maintain their own cGMP cold storage rooms.

"There is limited cGMP-compliant cold storage space available in the U.S. for cell culture media, supplements, and bioprocessing reagents," said John Hollenbach, Director of Sales and Marketing. "Our new cold storage capabilities allow both suppliers and customers to use us as part of their cold chain risk-mitigation plans. We've been an integral part of our customers' supply chain for over 20 years, so it was natural to offer cold chain services to further secure their chemical supply chains."

Cold storage maintains the stability of critical raw materials vital to manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals, such as vaccines and life-saving drugs. Safeguards to the cold room include adherence to the CFR 210 and 211 guidelines for storing and handling materials, redundant refrigeration systems, back-up power generation and temperature control devices and charting. Features like these are increasingly important to assuring the stability of raw materials used in biotechnology applications.
