Business Wire, June 12, 2008
Peter Cooper-Ellis, Former EVP and GM of BEA WebLogic Server Unit, to Head Engineering and Product Management for Leading Enterprise Open Source Java Software Company
SAN MATEO, Calif. -- SpringSource, the company behind the ubiquitous Spring Portfolio, today announced that veteran technology executive Peter Cooper-Ellis has joined the company's executive management team as senior vice president of engineering and product management. Mr. Cooper-Ellis is the former executive vice president and general manager for the WebLogic Server product line at BEA Systems, Inc. While at BEA, he was recognized for growing the WebLogic Server Unit business from its inception to the creation of BEA's flagship product, BEA WebLogic Server, the world's leading Java application server. BEA Systems was acquired by Oracle Corporation earlier this year.
Cooper-Ellis brings to SpringSource more than 25 years of experience managing enterprise software product development teams including transaction processing systems, messaging systems, Web application servers, Java Virtual Machine (JVM), customer support and security products.
In his new capacity as senior vice president of engineering and product management for SpringSource, Cooper-Ellis will lead SpringSource's global engineering and product management teams that recently unveiled the SpringSource Application Platform[TM], a powerful and highly flexible enterprise Java application server that provides a dramatically simpler alternative to legacy application servers and redefines the way in which Java applications are deployed and run. Cooper-Ellis will be based in San Mateo, Calif., and Southampton, England.
"Peter is a heavyweight in the enterprise Java market," says Rod Johnson, CEO of SpringSource. "His broad engineering and product management experience will greatly help us continue to redefine the application server market by developing world-class, industry leading enterprise Java products that are compelling alternatives to their legacy counterparts."
"SpringSource has a tremendous track record of bringing innovation to enterprise Java," says Cooper-Ellis. "I'm very excited to help transform the market once again and to bring enterprise Java to its true potential. SpringSource is uniquely positioned to capitalize on this enormous opportunity."
Besides being a driving force behind the WebLogic Application Server since 1999, Cooper-Ellis had management responsibility for more than a dozen acquisitions for BEA and was influential in product strategy for a variety of BEA's industry-leading Java products. Cooper-Ellis was also responsible for setting up offshore development labs for BEA in India and China.
Before joining BEA, Cooper-Ellis spent 10 years at Digital Equipment Corporation, where he managed the transaction processing engineering team, and six years at National Semiconductor as a software development engineer.
Cooper-Ellis holds a B.S. in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
