Leading Italian ISP ITnet Selects Critical Path's Memova® Anti-Abuse with Cloudmark Authority to Protect Subscriber Emails

Business Wire, June 12, 2008

TURIN, Italy -- Critical Path, Inc., a leading provider of messaging software and services, today announced that ITnet, the application infrastructure provider owned by Wind Telecomunicazioni, has selected Critical Path's Memova[R] Anti-Abuse C-2000, integrated with Cloudmark Authority, to protect its growing subscriber base from inbound and outbound email threats.

ITnet is the primary business ISP in Italy and is the leading provider of official Italian electronic certified email (Posta Elettronica Certificata, or PEC), representing over 30% of Italy's PEC market share. A long-standing Critical Path customer, ITnet will expand the anti-abuse protection it offers its customers through Critical Path's premium safety solution, the Memova Anti-Abuse C-2000 appliance.

Research shows that over 90% of emails sent are spam and approximately 20% of all emails sent contain a virus. Adding to these problems is an increasing level of sophistication and speed of various online attacks such as spam from botnets, rapidly-mutating phishing attempts and other threats. The challenges for service providers are enormous with implications for infrastructure and operational costs, quality of service and, consequently, subscriber churn. For companies like ITnet, the need to protect email from abuse is essential to its business - with clients such as corporations, universities and hospitals - ensuring a secure email experience and reliable delivery of messages is crucial.

"We chose the Memova Anti-Abuse safety solution because it demonstrated the best performance and accuracy of all the vendors' solutions evaluated during our selection process," says Gianni Signa, CEO, ITnet. "Critical Path and its partner, Cloudmark, have a proven track-record of protecting service providers against the various email attacks that pose a significant threat to our customers' businesses as well as providing solutions that are operationally- and cost-efficient."

The Memova Anti-Abuse C-2000 appliance significantly reduces abuse-related costs, detecting and stopping messaging threats with the highest accuracy and lowest false-positive rates in the industry - regardless of the message's language or format. The integration of Cloudmark Authority[TM] drives the solution's fast threat response and efficiency in message processing. Rather than CPU-intensive rules that are quickly outdated, Cloudmark uses real-time feedback from its Global Threat Network of 600 million trusted reporters together with highly-efficient Advanced Message Fingerprinting technology capable of stopping rapidly-mutating attacks. "We are excited that ITnet has expanded its relationship with Critical Path and we look forward to continuing our partnership," says Renato Miletti, Vice President Southern Europe at Critical Path. "The C-2000 not only offers industry-leading performance for detecting spam, virus and phishing attacks, it also boasts the highest level of accuracy in the marketplace through features such as Cloudmark's best-in-class content filtering, subscriber-level safelists, domain-level whitelists and blacklists. These new features plus the ability to differentiate premium services through bundled offerings will bring great value to ITnet."
