Ultimate Software's Development Team Wins First Place in 2008 American Business Awards
Business Wire, June 13, 2008
WESTON, Fla. -- Ultimate Software (NASDAQ:ULTI), a leading provider of end-to-end strategic human resources, payroll, and talent management solutions, announced today that its Development team was selected as the "Best Product Development Team" by the American Business Awards in its Stevie Award competition. More than 2,600 entries from companies of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted for consideration in more than 40 categories. The awards were presented on June 12 in New York City.
Among the achievements of the Ultimate Software Development team in 2007 were its delivery of the first single-database software-as-a-service (SaaS) payroll and human resources solution for management of Canadian employees and the successful execution of three very different strategies simultaneously:
* changing to Microsoft C#.NET and ASP.NET, enhancing the UltiPro product through Web Services and service-oriented architecture (SOA), and increasing product development speed and accuracy with new testing tools;
* changing its development methodology to Scrum, the Agile collaborative development approach; and
* creating a highly successful internship program to bring in very bright, "cream-of-the-crop" college programmers and hiring the best performers.
"Having a high-performance development team that operates strategically using state-of-the-art technologies is critical to our product and business success," said Scott Scherr, president, founder, and CEO of Ultimate Software. "This award is strong third-party validation that our development team stands out not only within our industry but also compared with other such teams in diverse industries nationwide."
The American Business Awards are the only national, all-encompassing awards program honoring great performances in business. The winners were selected from the finalists by a panel of judges and their staffs, and included such accomplished business professionals as Anthony Robbins, Chairman & CEO, The Anthony Robbins Companies; Donald Trump, Chairman, President & CEO, The Trump Organization; John Fitzgerald, Vice President of Marketing, The Ritz Carlton Club; Timothy P. Keenan, CEO, High Performance Technologies, Inc.; and Tom Peters, best-selling author and business guru.
Stevie Award winners were announced during the annual gala on Thursday, June 12 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. More than 600 executives from across the USA attended the ceremonies that were broadcast on radio nationwide by the Business TalkRadio Network and hosted by Liz Claman of FOX Business Network.
