Three Software AG Customers Recognized as Computerworld Honors Laureates

RESTON, Va. -- Software AG, a global leader in business infrastructure software, today announced that three of the company's customers - Florida Community College, Jacksonville, the Pennsylvania Justice Network and the City of Philadelphia - were recently awarded Laureate status by IDG's Computerworld Honors Program based on their use of Software AG technology. For two decades, Computerworld Honors have identified organizations from around the world whose use of information technology has been especially noteworthy for the originality of its conception, the breadth of its vision and the significance of its benefit to society. In this year's competition, the program recognized the online enrollment system developed by Florida Community College, Jacksonville (FCCJ); the information sharing network for law enforcement established by the Pennsylvania Justice Network; and the City of Philadelphia's information system for real estate development.

This year's honorees were commemorated during the 20th Annual Laureates Medal Ceremony & Gala Awards program, held on June 2, 2008 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. The technology achievements recognized by this program are preserved and protected within a centralized archive accessible by scholars and the general public alike. The material is also shared with over 350 universities, museums and research institutions throughout the world.

Florida Community College, Jacksonville launches online enrollment system

Florida Community College, Jacksonville is one of the nation's largest baccalaureate colleges, serving more than 73,000 students a year. The college continues to experience a doubling of online enrollment each year because of rapid growth in its online degree and distance learning programs. To meet the increased demands of a growing student body, FCCJ created a comprehensive online system called Connections that enables students to enroll, select courses, complete coursework and manage their entire educational experience through a single Web-based portal. By doing so, they can avoid the need and expense of visiting one of the college's five campuses or five major centers. FCCJ intended for Connections to be flexible enough to meet the changing technology needs of students and staff. Adopting and implementing Software AG's service-oriented architecture (SOA) technology has allowed the college to define and provision an information technology infrastructure that makes it possible for different applications to exchange data and participate in various processes such as enrollment, billing and class registration.

Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) advances public safety and law enforcement with enhancements to statewide information sharing network

The Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) is the commonwealth's primary public safety and criminal justice information network. It was established under executive order in June 1999 with a mission of enhancing public safety through the integration and sharing of criminal justice information throughout the Commonwealth. When the network was first established, application silos and the limitations of point-to-point integration inhibited JNET's ability to quickly and securely present users with a consolidated view of information. In response, JNET has embraced an SOA as the foundation for its "Next Generation Architecture," and successfully deployed a Federated Warrant Search engine that compiles warrant data from across multiple domains.

Today, JNET's integrated justice portal provides a common online environment for authorized users to access public safety and criminal justice information. This critical information comes from various contributing municipal, county, state and federal agencies. JNET's secure Web portal provides access to over 33,000 practitioners throughout the Commonwealth's sixty-seven counties as well as federal and state agencies. JNET also provides these practitioners with the ability to conduct secure investigations in a Web-based environment.
