The Boston Globe and Boston.com launch "The Intern" fan competition

BOSTON -- Boston Globe Media announced today the official start of "The Intern," a competition to win a one-month internship with the World Champion Boston Red Sox. The Boston Globe and Boston.com joined with the Sox to create "The Intern" to give a qualified fan the amazing opportunity to be part of one of the country's most successful professional sports franchises.

The Red Sox internship is open to all readers 18 or older, and will be a one-month, unpaid position beginning in August 2008. The winning intern will have the chance to experience behind the scenes action while working at historic Fenway Park. During the intern's tenure, he or she will have access to all home games.

Applicants must submit a short video (two minutes maximum) that creatively demonstrates how their Red Sox experience is enhanced by The Boston Globe and Boston.com; an essay (no more than 1,000 words) that presents why he or she should be chosen for the internship; and a one-page resume. Application details and complete rules can be found at www.redsox.com/intern.> The Intern will be chosen by a panel of judges comprising Boston Globe and Boston Red Sox executives. All applicant materials will be accepted between June 16 and June 30, with judging from July 1 to July 18. The Intern will be announced on July 21.
