Sequans Receives Mobile WiMAX Certification for Its 2.5 GHz Mobile Station and Base Station Reference Designs
Business Wire, June 17, 2008
Sequans now certified for both Mobile WiMAX profiles
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- Sequans Communications, leading WiMAX[TM] chipmaker, has been awarded the WiMAX Forum Certified[TM] seal of approval for both its base station and subscriber station Mobile WiMAX[TM] 2.5 GHz reference designs. Following the award of certification for its 2.3 GHz reference designs two months ago, Sequans now has certified products for both base station and subscriber station technology for both profiles of the Mobile WiMAX standard.
"We are very pleased to have our Mobile WiMAX 2.5 GHz designs receive the WiMAX Forum stamp of approval," said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. "Our chips are already powering some of the world's most important Mobile WiMAX networks, and official certification will accelerate both the adoption of WiMAX technology and the rollout of more and more networks. Mobile WiMAX is the most important mobile broadband solution of today, backed by a very strong ecosystem and bringing needed services to millions worldwide. We congratulate all the vendors who won certification today and especially our customer, ZyXEL."
The Sequans WiMAX Forum Certified Mobile WiMAX reference designs are based on the Sequans SQN1130 SOC for Mobile WiMAX mobile stations and the SQN2130 ASIC for Mobile WiMAX base stations. The base station solution is the first and only ASIC-based solution in the market today and the mobile station solution is the first and only to implement uplink MIMO for greatly improved cell coverage [see Sequans press release on uplink MIMO]. The mobile station solution delivers industry-leading high throughput and low power consumption.
Sequans has received WiMAX Forum[R] certification for both base station and subscriber station products for both initial profiles of Mobile WiMAX as well as for Fixed WIMAX[TM], and is the only WIMAX chipmaker to bear this distinction. Sequans plans to submit 3.5 GHz Mobile WiMAX products for certification later this year.
