DRS Awarded $16 Million US Army Contract for Multi-Temperature Refrigeration Container Systems

Business Wire, June 2, 2008

PARSIPPANY, N.J. -- DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:DRS) announced today that it received a $16.2 million order to provide Multi-Temperature Refrigeration Container System (MTRCS) units to the U.S. Army's Natick Soldier Systems Center at Natick, Massachusetts.

The full-rate production order is part of a previously awarded fixed price five-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract award worth $43.6 million, which was awarded to the company in January 2004. Production work will take place at the company's DRS Sustainment Systems unit in Florence, Kentucky. Product deliveries will accomplished in May and June 2009.

MTRCS is the follow-on generation of refrigeration systems, intended to replace the Refrigerated Container System, also produced by DRS in Florence. MTRCS can transport and store both refrigerated and frozen products in a single container. The system consists of an insulated 8-foot by 8-foot by 20-foot International Organization for Standardization shipping container with an engine-driven refrigeration unit that can operate while on the move. The two compartments are separated by a movable partition, which allows for varied proportions of refrigerated and frozen storage.

The MTRCS will be used principally by U.S. Army Subsistence Platoons and Brigade Combat Teams Maneuver elements. It also will be used by medical units to transport and store refrigerated medical supplies, including blood products.

"DRS Technologies has been a proud participant with the U.S. Army during the System Design and Development phase that led up to this production order," said Thomas G. Cornwell, president, DRS' Sustainment Systems Segment. "The unique design and configuration of this next-generation system provides the soldier with increased operational flexibility and a greater logistics capability, due to more efficient space utilization and reduced transportation requirements."

DRS Technologies, headquartered in Parsippany, New Jersey, is a leading supplier of integrated products, services and support to military forces, intelligence agencies and prime contractors worldwide. The company employs approximately 10,000 people. For more information about DRS Technologies, please visit the company's web site at www.drs.com.
