CEA Praises Electronics Recycling Test Program from Best Buy

Business Wire, June 2, 2008

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)([R]) today issued the following statement regarding Best Buy's test electronics recycling program:

"CEA is thrilled that Best Buy has taken this next step to explore how to make electronics recycling more accessible and convenient for consumers," said Parker Brugge, CEA's vice president of Environmental Affairs and Corporate Sustainability. "It will be a welcome addition to electronics recycling options currently available to the public."

"We strongly believe that electronics recycling must be a shared responsibility between manufacturers and retailers, as well as consumers and government. CEA supports Best Buy's effort to enable consumers to take environmentally-responsible action with their consumer electronics products."

CEA research demonstrates that consumers are placing more importance on electronics recycling than ever before. In fact, 87 percent of US adults think that recycling unused electronics is important. That sentiment is quickly translating into action, as the number of CE products being recycled increases--up 27 percent in 2007 over 2005.

CEA's website www.MyGreenElectronics.org offers more tips for consumers on how to responsibly use, reuse and recycle consumer electronics products. The site includes a zip-code searchable database of electronics recyclers nationwide, in addition to information on electronics recycling programs from Best Buy and other consumer electronics manufacturers and retailers.
