Rosie's Plate to Address Food Allergies and Special Diets
Business Wire, June 23, 2008
Fresh Food Service Now Open, Featuring Gluten-Free, Shellfish-Free, Nut-Free Kitchen
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Rosie's Plate, a fresh food service helping people with food restrictions due to allergies, intolerances or other medical conditions, is now open in Raleigh, N.C.
Offering a variety of fresh made foods - including entrees, side dishes, salads, soups, snacks, lunch-to-go, breads and desserts - Rosie's Plate's creations are prepared in a new gluten-, shellfish- and peanut-free commercial kitchen. The service is now accepting orders for pickup at its 701 North Person Street location and plans to offer home delivery in the Raleigh area starting this fall.
Rosie's Plate's founder and owner, Rose Waring, was overwhelmed in 2004 when she learned that her children, Nick and Rosie, had multiple food allergies. She quickly realized that information about how to transition to an allergy-free diet and help for children and adults with food restrictions were very limited. Through research and trial and error, Waring learned a whole new way to shop, cook and plan.
"The increase in food allergies in America is alarming," Waring said. "Today more than ever, restricted diets are necessary for many people to live a healthy life."
According to a recent Newsweek magazine report, an estimated 11 million Americans suffer from food allergies, and many scientists believe that number is climbing. Waring hopes to bring some relief with Rosie's Plate.
Executive Chef Anne Everitt is well versed in cooking with fresh, healthy ingredients and creates a variety of options for customers, with the menu changing weekly.
Rosie's Plate is now taking food orders online at www.rosiesplate.com or by phone or fax. The current menu and complete ingredients for each item can be found online. Orders can be picked up at the North Person Street location.
