The pilots are appealing directly to customers, asking them to share their ideas for fixing the airline through the Web site www.TellYourAAStory.com. "Despite the airline's poor operational performance, American Airlines management continues to receive industry-leading compensation, including $300 million in performance bonuses over the past three years," said Captain Karl Schricker, APA Communications Committee Chairman.
Founded in 1963, APA is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. There are currently 1,973 American Airlines pilots on furlough. The furloughs began shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Also, several hundred American Airlines pilots are on full-time military leave of absence serving in the armed forces. The union's Web site address is www.alliedpilots.org. American Airlines is the nation's largest passenger carrier.
