Microchip Technology Again Recognized for Leadership and Innovation; Named to Forbes 2000 List of World's Largest Companies
Business Wire, June 24, 2008
Company Honored by National Organizations for Product and Business Excellence
CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Microchip Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHP), a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, today announced that it has been recognized by the following national business and electronics organizations for product and workplace leadership.
"As a worldwide leader in providing 8-, 16- and 32-bit microcontrollers with seamless software migration, and a recent addition to the S&P 500 Index, our greatest reward is that design engineers prefer Microchip for their embedded designs," said Steve Sanghi, Microchip's president and CEO. "We are extremely honored to again be recognized for the technology and business excellence that our customers and long-term investors have come to expect."
Forbes magazine named Microchip to its 4th annual list of the "Forbes Global 2000" largest companies in the world. The magazine includes companies with the top composite scores, based on their rankings for sales, profits, assets and market value. Forbes uses this composite ranking because they believe that one metric alone can give a false impression about corporate size.
Microchip was also named a winner of the 2008 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility, distinguishing the Company as a leading practitioner of workplace flexibility in Arizona and across the nation. These honors are awarded as part of the When Work Works project, an ongoing initiative of the Families and Work Institute, the Institute for a Competitive Workforce (an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce), and the Twiga Foundation. The Sloan Awards recognize organizations that are dedicated to making work "work" for both the employer and the employees. Representing employers of all sizes and all types, winners of this prestigious award not only offer excellent workplace flexibility practices, but they also use flexibility as a strategic business tool to enhance organizational effectiveness while benefiting employees.
"As a truly global company, Microchip attracts and retains the world's top talent by providing the schedule flexibility, resources and training to successfully work with our virtual teams located in multiple time zones throughout the Americas, Asia and Europe," said Lauren Carr, Microchip's vice president of Human Resources. "The result is productive, happy employees who are empowered to manage their schedules based on the project needs of their global teams and customers, while meeting their own needs for balance between their work and personal lives."
Finally, Microchip's new PIC32 32-bit microcontroller family was selected for an "Editor's Choice" award from eg3's inaugural "Tech Choice Awards" in the "Embedded Processors" category. The editors at eg3.com identified the key technology areas facing the embedded systems industry, including Virtualization, Embedded Processors, Embedded Tools, FPGAs and Tools, Wireless, and MicroTCA. Within each of those categories, eg3 selected the three best new products.
