Flood Waters Threaten Pets and Shelters

Invisible Fence Dealer makes donation, encourage others

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- As floodwaters continue to rise in the Midwest, animal shelters are under increasing pressure, with more animals to care for but no additional resources. "Sometimes people fleeing the flood waters aren't sure where they're headed. And while it may break their hearts, they leave their pets with us," says Susan Manson of the Cedar Valley Humane Society.

As a result, facilities like Manson's in Cedar Rapids, Iowa face an almost overwhelming challenge: caring for more animals with fewer resources. The Cedar Valley Humane Society is only one shelter; the same situation is happening in other flood-affected areas. After seeing the devastation first-hand, the owner of the Invisible Fence of Cedar Rapids dealership, Trent Donels, said he just knew he had to help.

"We're in the business of keeping pets safe at home. But even when that home is uninhabitable we want pets to be protected," says Mark Thomas, Invisible Fence Senior Brand Manager. "So, we partnered with Trent and his Invisible Fence dealership to deliver a check for several thousand dollars to the shelter there in Cedar Valley."

Thomas and Donels hope others will get involved as well. "Obviously, taking care of the people displaced by these tragedies is most important," says Thomas. "But we hope people will also think of the pets that are being impacted and try to help them as well."

"Any shelter in an area affected by flooding is almost sure to need help," Donels says.

Susan Manson of the Cedar Valley Humane Society is very appreciative of the donation. "We're doing all we can do and every dollar that comes in is deeply appreciated," says Manson. "Those of us who are caring for animals in the flooded areas need support."
