Belgacom ICS and Veraz Networks Announce Successful Completion of GSMA IPX Trial
Business Wire, June 25, 2008
Converged Support for TDM and IP Applications Key to Offering Enhanced Interconnect Services for Mobile and Fixed Operators
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Belgacom International Carrier Services (Belgacom ICS), one of the largest wholesale carriers worldwide and a leader in mobile data transit services, and Veraz Networks, Inc., (NASDAQ:VRAZ) the leading provider of Multimedia Generation Network application, control, and bandwidth optimization products, today announced that they have successfully completed testing the GSM Association's (GSMA) IP eXchange (IPX) service.
The trial demonstrated the ability of the IPX architecture to provide an open, secure IP-based platform for interconnecting mobile and fixed operators with value-added services. In addition to traditional voice interconnect services the trial also demonstrated support for a circuit-switched video application between two service providers. The IPX service is a next-generation interconnect model which delivers a managed network solution that offers openness, focuses on quality, enables cascading payments and provides an extremely efficient connectivity regime - one contract, many connections.
"Belgacom ICS was pleased to work with Veraz Networks to demonstrate the capabilities of the GSMA's IPX," said Patrick George, Vice President, Marketing & Product Management, Belgacom ICS. "We believe that the IPX provides a clear path towards global interconnected IP networks that will better serve the needs of mobile operators."
"We are happy to be working with Belgacom ICS to demonstrate the value of the GSMA IPX," noted Amit Chawla, Veraz EVP, Global Business Units. "The comprehensive support for both TDM and IP services and advanced media management capabilities of the Veraz's IPX solution provides a powerful end-to-end network architecture for operators interested in offering IPX services."
Today there are over seven hundred mobile operators, serving three billion mobile subscribers, looking for value-added interconnect solutions to extend their service reach. The GSMA's IPX is a standardized solution for interconnecting various service providers over a global, private IP network with high QoS and end-to-end service level agreements (SLAs). Like today's GSMA specified GPRS Roaming Exchange (GRX) service, it is expected that there will be multiple, interconnected, IPX service providers.
Belgacom ICS expects to launch commercial services based on the GSMA IPX later this year.

The ControlSwitch's powerful policy based routing engine and interworking of SS7, SIP-I and SIP protocols; the I-Gate 4000 media gateways' enhanced media management capabilities; and simplified end-to-end operations support are key attributes of Veraz's IPX solution. This combination provides an end-to-end platform for offering advanced IPX services.
