Cloakware Cryptomathematician Presents at Fields Institute Workshop
Business Wire, June 25, 2008
Presentation Provides Research and Insight into White-Box Attacks and Methods for Content Protection
VIENNA, Va. -- Cloakware Inc., the security solutions provider that makes security inseparable from software, today announced that Phil Eisen, the company's senior cryptomathematician and transform team lead will present a session titled "It's Not the Size of Your Key That Matters, It's How You Use It" at the Fields Institute Workshop on New Directions in Cryptography. Cloakware is also a sponsor of the workshop that will take place from June 25 - 27, 2008 at the University of Ottawa in Canada. More information is available at http://www.fields.utoronto.ca/programs/scientific/07-08/cryptography.
The strength of a cryptographic algorithm has always been discussed in terms of its resistance to black-box attacks. As more security moves into the software world - which includes security for portable devices, set-top boxes, DVD players, etc. - this model is no longer realistic. In this talk, Eisen will present a more realistic white-box attack context and present ongoing research on ways to have secure cryptography in this context.

"With the advent of new attack vectors and the growing sophistication and availability of attack tools, the creation of defense techniques is an ongoing process," said Eisen. "The goal of my presentation is to help attendees think about new concepts in cryptography that take these evolving attacks into mind and provide ways to create more powerful cipher design."
Phil Eisen is Senior Cryptomathematician and Transform Team Lead at Cloakware. He is one of the inventors of White-box AES, and has been actively involved in research and development in White-box Cryptography and Software Security since 2001.
