In.vision Utilizes Open XML Technology for Improved Pharmaceutical Documents
Business Wire, June 25, 2008
Intelligent Documents Will Help Transform the Pharmaceutical Industry, from Labs to Labels
BOSTON -- This week at the 44th Annual Drug Information Association (DIA) Meeting, In.vision Research Corporation, a market leader for Enterprise XML Authoring solutions, announced new products that leverage the Open XML standard to improve regulatory document processes.
The process of physically assembling and manually performing quality checks on documents in a regulatory submission is a rigorous task that can introduce risk and impact time-to-market. In.vision's Xpress Templates for Microsoft Office Word and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 improves the regulatory document process by leveraging Open XML to provide Word templates that encapsulate corporate business rules, thus allowing authors to:
* Create and reuse instructions, examples, and boilerplate text within templates that are tailored to the organization
* Ensure that proper document style and structure is followed
* Directly reference and include content from one section of a submission to another, eliminating "cut-and-paste" and the associated loss of integrity
* Apply business rules to the automated quality control of content and document metadata
The result of these features is a more intelligent document workspace for authors, and improved time-to-market, lower quality assurance costs, and reduced risk for the corporation. Importantly, In.vision's Xpress Templates leverages the Open XML standard within Microsoft Office Word and SharePoint Server 2007 to deliver critical business tools on the software platform that is accessible to all users across the enterprise.
In.vision demonstrated the new Open XML tools in Microsoft Word 2007 and SharePoint Server 2007 in the Microsoft booth at the DIA Annual Meeting. Michael Naimoli, U.S. life sciences industry director at Microsoft Corp., said, "Pharmaceutical customers continue to struggle with regulatory document management and maintaining a 'single version of the truth' when it comes to critical documentation. In.vision's solution helps directly address this issue with an advanced and flexible approach - built on the 2007 Microsoft Office System and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 - that will greatly benefit our mutual customers."
One of the strengths of the Open XML and the Microsoft .NET Framework built into Office 2007 is the ability to combine enterprise resources with the authoring experience. "Already we see major pharmaceutical companies in the process of connecting metadata repositories, SAS data sets, and other corporate resources directly to the document as it is being authored," said Richard Brandt, VP of Life Sciences at In.vision Research. "With Open XML, In.vision's extensive set of authoring enhancements now gives authors a two-way pipeline to enterprise information, for reuse, validation, or other critical business needs. This is truly revolutionary."
