Michael D. Karpeles Inducted As Fellow of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers

Business Wire,  June 26, 2008

CHICAGO -- Michael D. Karpeles, a principal in the law firm of Goldberg, Kohn, Bell, Black, Rosenbloom & Moritz, Ltd., has been elected a Fellow of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Election as a Fellow is the highest recognition by ones colleagues of sustained outstanding performance in the profession, exemplifying integrity, dedication and excellence. Fellows must be recommended by members of the employment bar for both management and employees, judges, community leaders and HR industry leaders.

Mr. Karpeles is a principal in Goldberg Kohn's Litigation Group with extensive experience in complex commercial litigation in his 23-year legal career. In the last several years, Mr. Karpeles has concentrated his practice in employment law, and he heads the firm's Labor & Employment Group. He regularly defends employers in state and federal courts and administrative agencies around the country in class actions and individual cases involving allegations of discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful discharge and violations of wage and hour laws. He also handles cases under the ADA, ERISA, FMLA and whistleblower statutes. He has litigated numerous matters involving covenants-not-to-compete, employee raiding, trade secrets and employment contracts. Mr. Karpeles received his law degree, cum laude, from Harvard University in 1985 and his B.A. in psychology, summa cum laude, from Wheaton College in 1981.

The twelfth installation of Fellows of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers will be held September 13, 2008 in Denver, CO, coincident with the American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section's Continuing Legal Education Conference. With the current installation, the College is represented by over 950 members in 42 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Canada.

The College was the vision of a number of the Fellows. The idea was to further establish this profession in all its aspects as one uniquely important to the world of labor and employment law, individual rights, collective bargaining and dispute resolution. The College was established in 1995 through an initiative of the Council of The Section of Labor and Employment Law of The American Bar Association. It operates as a free standing organization recognizing those who, by long and outstanding service, have distinguished themselves as leaders in the field.
