AGA Ranks PGW as a Top Performing Company in 2008 Operations Best Practices
Business Wire, June 26, 2008
PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) has been recognized for outstanding achievement by the American Gas Association (AGA). PGW has been ranked in the top quartile out of more than 80 natural gas utilities in the nation by the AGA's Operations Best Practices Benchmarking Program in the areas of Damage Prevention and Marking & Locating.
The AGA Operations Best Practices Benchmarking Program identifies procedures of superior-performing gas industry companies and innovative work practices that can be used to improve participant's operations and reduce costs.
PGW has not only achieved results, but its damage prevention initiative is also cost-efficient. While the average cost of a natural gas utility company's damage prevention program is $2.8 million, PGW spends a little over $1 million with award-winning success.
"Thank you to the AGA for setting the industry standard. I'm proud to accept this honor on behalf of all PGW employees who are committed to help the company achieve operational excellence," said President and Chief Executive Officer, Thomas E. Knudsen.
"Our experienced workforce's attention to the accuracy of our maps and ability to work closely with the PA-One Call provides a real benefit to customers and to our City. Our work represents our commitment to create continuous improvements and provide value to our customers," said Paul Mondimore, PGW's vice president of Field Operations.
Founded in 1836, PGW is the nation's largest municipally owned natural gas utility, serving half a million residential, commercial and industrial customers.
