Leading the Charge for the Democratization of Data, Jigsaw Declares June 4, 2008 Data Independence Day and Makes Company Data Freely Accessible...and FREE

SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Getting information about companies has always been possible, but always at a hefty price, whether measured in time or money. Jigsaw, a leading provider of business information and data services that uniquely leverages user-generated content contributed by its global membership, announced today its Open Data Initiative that sets the price at zero for gaining easy access to and open usage of company information available at www.jigsaw.com. Declaring June 4, 2008 "Data Independence Day," Jigsaw is kicking off its Open Data Initiative to democratize company data by making it easy to search, select, and download company data for free for the more than one million companies currently listed in the Jigsaw directory.

"The days of the multi-billion dollar data industry being under the rule of the few, and accessible only by the few with deep pockets, are over. The rule of the many, as ably demonstrated by Jigsaw's dedicated membership, has emerged triumphant as the source that yields the most complete and accurate information for business professionals and companies," said Jim Fowler, Jigsaw CEO and co-founder. "Jigsaw is declaring June 4th Data Independence Day and issuing a Declaration of Data Independence, which proclaims that company information is now freely accessible and free to anyone."

Having ignited a revolution in the data industry in 2004 when it launched with the plan to leverage the "wisdom of the crowds," and its user-contributed content to develop a massive online directory of business contacts, Jigsaw is continuing on its path of disrupting traditional approaches to data delivery by presenting an innovative alternative: Jigsaw's Open Data Initiative introduces an open-source approach to the gathering and usage of company information.

Jigsaw's Open Data Initiative is supported by leading CRM and contact management providers including: Entellium, Landslide, Maximizer, NetSuite, Oracle, Sage, and SugarCRM. Customers of these leading software providers will now be able to easily import Jigsaw's free company data into their applications. Furthermore, the CRM providers will be able to pre-load their customers' implementations with Jigsaw's free company data. Delivered today without content, CRM solutions traditionally have been built out and maintained internally at companies through a variety of methods including subscribing to expensive data services and conducting time-intensive in-house research to find data one-company-at-a-time on websites and in directories. Working with Jigsaw, CRM providers can now add value to their systems by populating them with content matched to the specifications of each individual customer. For a fee, the CRM providers' customers can also gain access to Jigsaw's directory of more than 8 million business contacts.

Businesses can use Jigsaw's free company data for any number of different purposes, particularly in sales and marketing. For example, a company that wants to market a new product to a specific segment of its existing customer base and finds that its current CRM system is lacking data for effective customer segmentation can now tap into Jigsaw to get that information. With the Jigsaw Open Data Initiative, they can augment the information for each company in their customer and marketing databases with Jigsaw's free company data, adding such things as industry category, size, geography and complete address information. This information would allow for deeper segmentation of their prospects and customers and increase the effectiveness of their sales and marketing campaigns and ongoing communications.

With this release, Jigsaw will also make web services APIs available for tighter integration with CRM and contact management solutions. The Open Data Initiative APIs let developers access and integrate data from Jigsaw into their applications. Developers can choose to pull in a single company record, a set of records that match specific search criteria or company data records matched to a specific company name, stock ticker or URL. Registered Jigsaw members can request an API key by emailing api@jigsaw.com.
