Sarnoff Selected To Provide Advanced Camera Tracking Technology For U.S. Marines Training

ActVision software enables unified camera network to automatically follow multiple units, individuals, or threats
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Sarnoff Corporation today announced it has been selected as part of the L-3 Communications - Global Security & Engineering Solutions (GS&ES) team to supply next-generation camera tracking technology to the U.S. Marines. The Tactical Video Capture Systems (TVCS) will be deployed at military training sites in the United States and overseas.
Sarnoff's Active Coordinated Tracking Vision subsystem (ActVision) will enable the automatic tracking of positions of teams and individual Marines using multiple Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras and will allow the entire camera network to work as a single coordinated unit. This technology will be implemented with Praetorian, L-3's intelligent video observation system, to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of training exercises, situational awareness and After-Action-Review (AAR).
Using Sarnoff ActVision software, PTZ cameras can obtain enhanced comprehensive coverage by automatically tracking Marines in real time during the course of exercises. The system leverages both integrated soldier-worn Position Location Identification systems (PLI) and fixed location cameras so trainers can follow key Marines, units, or threats across a large area. For added situational awareness, ActVision's software can designate specific cameras for individual control or entire camera arrays can be preprogrammed and automatically controlled.
"In the past, MOUT trainers who wanted to track an individual or group were relegated to following multiple camera feeds or focusing on just one angle," said Dr. Don Newsome, Sarnoff's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Sarnoff ActVision software enables vast improvements in training effectiveness by giving commanders an extra set of eyes to seamlessly follow the action from multiple angles. Sarnoff has a deep history of enabling advanced C4ISR solutions and ActVision highlights our ability to meet the unique needs of our military customers."
The TVCS team is led by L-3's Global Security & Engineering Solutions business and also includes Cisco, L-3 Coleman Aerospace, Henry Brothers Electronics, Tapestry Solutions, Harris Corporation and Telos Corporation.
