Fulbright & Jaworski Announces New Leader for Labor & Employment Practice

Business Wire, March 12, 2008

AUSTIN, Texas -- Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. has named Brian S. Greig as head of the global firm's labor and employment law practice group.

Greig, a partner in the firm's Austin office, has more than 30 years of experience in representing employers in litigation related to a variety of labor and employment matters.

He will oversee a practice that began when Fulbright was founded in 1919 and has grown to include 60 lawyers in offices across the globe. Greig replaces A. J. Harper II, who has led the labor and employment practice since 1994.

"Our clients consistently rank labor and employment matters as among their top concerns, and we have worked to expand our capabilities in this area," said Steven B. Pfeiffer, Chair of Fulbright's Executive Committee. "Brian Greig is recognized as one of the world's leading labor and employment lawyers and is well-positioned to head this practice, which has historically been one of the firm's strengths and remains one today."

Fulbright's labor and employment practice encompasses such areas as civil rights litigation, management-union relations, affirmative action, corporate transactions, restructuring and downsizing, employment benefits, employment contracts, foreign employment laws, safety and health and wage-hour issues.

Labor and employment litigation continues to be a top priority for U.S. businesses. According to Fulbright's Litigation Trends Survey, released in October 2007, 53% of U.S. respondents indicated that employment cases were their No. 1 concern.

"Brian Greig takes over Fulbright's labor and employment practice during a time when national class actions are on the rise and international labor and employment issues are confronting U.S. businesses," said Harper, who continues to practice law with the firm as Of Counsel in its Houston office. "His proven leadership in such organizations as the American Bar Association, American College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, American Employment Law Council and Texas Association of Business provides Brian with a broad view on employment issues facing businesses today."

Fulbright recently expanded its labor and employment practice in Minneapolis to add to its existing capabilities in New York, California, Texas, Asia and other geographical regions.

"Our firm has coast-to-coast capabilities with concentrated strength on the East and West coasts, Texas and the Midwest to meet our clients' needs," Greig said. "We're also seeing growth in matters in Asia, Latin America and Europe, and we expect that trend to continue. New employment laws in Asia, for example, have sparked inbound work in China as U.S. businesses are facing new sets of challenges and dealing with local disputes there. Our goal is to help train clients, handle any disputes which arise early and help them maintain positive employee relations - whether in the U.S. or abroad."

Greig has considerable experience in trade secret and protection of employers' assets and expertise possessed by departing employees. In addition to litigation, his employment practice includes design of personnel systems, policies and handbooks, advice on reductions in force and other employment terminations and investigations of alleged employee misconduct such as sexual harassment.

Greig was named a 2008 BTI Client Service All-Star, one of approximately 150 lawyers nationwide honored for delivering superior client service. He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America; Who's Who in the World; and Chambers U.S.A. as a "Tier One" attorney in labor and employment. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Texas Employment Law Handbook - A Guide for Employers, an annual publication by the Texas Association of Business, and was a contributor to The Developing Labor Law, published by the Labor and Employment Law Section of the American Bar Association.

A 1975 graduate of The University of Texas School of Law, Greig received his B.A. in Economics from Washington & Lee University in 1972.
