Annual Survey Highlights Corporate Social Responsibility Performance of Major US Companies
BOSTON -- State Street Corporation (NYSE: STT), the world's leading provider of financial services to institutional investors, announced today that it has been named to Corporate Responsibility Officer (CRO) magazine's list of the "100 Best Corporate Citizens" for the second consecutive year. This year, State Street improved its ranking to No. 12 up from No. 60 in 2007, which includes public US companies across many industries.
State Street was selected by CRO Magazine as one of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens for its strong corporate governance practices and ongoing commitment to maintaining the company's reputation for quality, integrity and high ethical standards. State Street was also recognized for its continued efforts to reduce its impact on the environment through the Corporation's environmental management system, which includes established goals for increasing recycled paper initiatives, reducing fossil fuels burned and greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition, State Street Global Advisors, the company's asset management division, has established a global environmental investment effort designed to meet increasing demand from institutional customers for investment strategies that factor in environmental risk and opportunity analysis. Last November, State Street Global Advisors launched its Global Environmental Opportunities Strategy (GEOS), a pioneering new strategy that aims to capture the investment opportunities resulting from actions affecting climate change.
"At State Street, our commitment to sustainability resonates throughout the entire organization," said Ronald E. Logue, chairman and chief executive officer of State Street. "I am proud of our efforts of the past year to significantly increase our ranking, and this recognition is a strong affirmation of State Street's dedication to consistently be viewed as a strong corporate citizen."
Companies are selected for CRO Magazine's 100 Best Corporate Citizens by achieving a high numerical rating across eight stakeholder categories: Climate Change, Employee Relations, Environment, Financial, Governance, Human Rights, Lobbying and Philanthropy. All companies on CRO Magazine's 100 Best Corporate Citizens list are also required to be included in the Russell 1000(c). Rankings were determined independently by IW Financial, a leader in environmental, social and governance (ESG) ratings.
