Business Wire, March 17, 2008
Latest Version Features Support for Visual FoxPro Developers, Increased Performance, SQL Debugger, and 64 bit Platform Support
DUBLIN, Calif. -- Sybase iAnywhere today announced it is further strengthening its database management portfolio with the release of Advantage Database Server[TM] 9. The updated features include unique support for Visual FoxPro 9, significant performance boosts for large transactions, reduced end user configuration requirements and the addition of key functionality including an SQL Debugger and 64 bit Platform Support. A key piece of Sybase's embedded and workgroup database management offerings, Advantage Database Server is a high performance embedded client/server data management system that provides both ISAM table-based and SQL-based data access, enabling application developers to easily chart a growth path for legacy database applications to today's modern techniques.
"The enhancements and updates in Advantage Database Server 9 have allowed us to further enhance the product's usability, resulting in greater developer productivity," said Dave Neudoerffer, vice president, engineering. "These latest Advantage updates are driven by significant customer and partner interest -- in particular, the unique support for Visual FoxPro. Currently Advantage is the only database that can provide this level of functionality to DBF file formats with such ease of integration into Visual FoxPro."
"We need a solution that's fast and reliable that does not require heavy resources, and Advantage has proven to be the best foundation for our products," said Bill Plendl, manager of Research & Development, ProfitStars. "We are excited about the new enhancements and are looking forward to testing version 9." ProfitStars ALM, budgeting and cost account solutions are used by thousands of financial institutions.
Functionality Enhancements of Advantage Database Server 9
Enhanced FoxPro Support:
* Advantage 9 will support the Visual FoxPro 9 file format.
Performance Enhancements:
* 64-bit Windows and Linux Servers: The Advantage Database Server was ported to run as a native 64-bit application on the x64 versions of Windows and Linux greatly increasing memory usage capabilities.
* SQL Engine and Filter Performance Enhancements: The server will now use a more efficient method to optimize multi-segmented filters. Since filters are used extensively by the SQL engine, this optimization will provide a positive impact on the performance of SQL statements as well.
Productivity Enhancements
* SQL Debugger: A visual SQL debugger has been added to the Advantage Data Architect, allowing developers to debug SQL scripts, stored procedures, triggers and user defined functions by using breakpoints, and call stack/variable inspection.
* Dynamic Server Configuration: If all the available resources are in use, Advantage will automatically adjust to handle the new requirements.
* Event Notifications: Event notifications are a mechanism that allows an action at the server to proactively notify clients that an event they are interested in has occurred.
* New Default User Groups: Admin, public, debug backup.
* TDataSet Descendant Version Management Utility: The TDataSet Switch utility allows developers to maintain multiple projects on a single PC, even if each project uses a different version of the Advantage TDataSet Descendant.
* Enhanced Replication Functionality: Added pause and merge functionality.
