Launches First Company-Wide Employee Giving Campaign With Corporate Matching Contribution

HERNDON, Va. -- RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI), a leading broadband provider of video, data, and voice services to residential, business and commercial/carrier customers, announced that it will once again donate $3 million in cable television time to United Way of America in 2008.

"We thank RCN for their strong, continued support of United Way," said Brian A. Gallagher, President and CEO, United Way of America. "RCN senior management has worked with us on various board committees and RCN employees have been generous with their financial and volunteer support, demonstrating that RCN is a true partner in creating long-lasting change. RCN's commitment to donating air time in 2008 will greatly help United Way communicate its message to the thousands of households within the RCN markets."

RCN President and CEO Peter D. Aquino explained, "We take the role of being a good corporate citizen in the markets we serve and live very seriously. What better way to do that than to work with United Way, the nation's premier community-based charitable organization."

This ad time, which is broken down by markets, comes from the inventory allotted for RCN's charitable and own corporate promotions.

"Last year's efforts were very fruitful for us. Our national United Way staff will work again with the marketing teams in each of these United Way cities to ensure that if desired, the spots will feature the local logo and web address call to action," explained United Way of America's Chief Financial Officer Usha Chaudhary, who was instrumental in bringing this opportunity to the national charitable organization.

"Last year, our donation and coordination of air time was hailed as unique and exciting. We hope that other cable providers will join us to help spread United Way's call for action," said RCN Senior Vice President, Strategic and External Affairs Richard Ramlall. "We are proud to again support United Way and look forward to a long and productive relationship."
