Evergreen Solar Receives Nasdaq Deficiency Notice Regarding Audit Committee Requirements; Board Appoints Additional Independent Director to Audit Committee

MARLBORO, Mass. -- Evergreen Solar, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESLR), today announced that Edward Grady was appointed to the company's Audit Committee on March 11, 2008. Following Mr. Grady's appointment, on March 13, 2008, the company received a notice from Nasdaq indicating that, effective on the resignation of Gerald Wilson from Evergreen Solar's Board of Directors and Audit Committee on February 1, 2008, the company was no longer in compliance with Nasdaq's audit committee requirements set forth in Marketplace Rule 4350(d)(2). This rule requires Evergreen Solar to maintain an audit committee composed of at least three independent directors. With the appointment of Mr. Grady to the Audit Committee, the company regained compliance with the Nasdaq rule.

The issuance by Nasdaq of a deficiency notice is standard procedure when a listed company does not meet the minimum required number of independent directors on its audit committee. This notification has no effect on the listing of Evergreen Solar's common stock at this time.
