Cooper Lighting Donates Products to ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to Help an American Soldier and His Family

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Cooper Lighting recently donated lighting fixtures to ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to accommodate an approximate 3,000 square-foot home and museum in Rice, Va. for an episode that aired March 2nd.

Cooper Lighting's donation consisted of 140 Halo recessed downlighting fixtures, including 4" and 6" housings with white baffle, shower and eyeball trims.

Michael Lucas (37) of Cullen, Va. is currently serving in the National Guard overseas in Iraq. He has a deep passion and appreciation for his historically rich home state of Virginia and spent much of his life assisting in the preservation of Virginia's historical battlefields and historical landmarks. Michael and his wife Jean (33), have two children Michael Henry (11) and a younger son Joseph Nathan (7) who has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Less than a year ago, Michael and his family bought a piece of land located on one of the most famous battlefields of the Civil War. Unfortunately, before Michael could finish building a home for his family, he was deployed overseas to Iraq. Troubled by his family's unfinished home, Michael constantly worried that his family would not have a safe place to live.

The cast and crew of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition along with friends of the community began to rebuild a new Lucas family home using various products, including Cooper Lighting's recessed lighting fixtures. A week later, the two-story dream home and a museum--which displays all of Michael's extensive collection of Virginia's historical artifacts, photos, letter, clothing and firearms from the region--was unveiled to the Lucas family.

"Cooper Lighting has been a long standing proponent of giving back to the community," said Daniel Castillo, V.P. Marketing, Cooper Lighting. "Continuous involvement in projects such as helping the Lucas family demonstrates our commitment to corporate social responsibility. We are proud to work again with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to help another family's dream come true."

Cooper Lighting's product was distributed to Ken Broadwater Homes through Cooper Lighting's local distributor, Farmville Wholesale of Farmville, Va.

"Without the selfless assistance and support of project partners like Cooper Lighting, this Extreme Dream project would still be just that...a dream," said Ken Broadwater, Managing Member of Ken Broadwater Homes, LLC. "It is a privilege to work with such a competent and professional company. I am impressed how easily and efficiently this project was completed and how we all worked together for such a good cause."

Continuing in Cooper Industries' commitment to corporate social responsibility, Cooper Wiring Devices has also contributed product to an upcoming episode of the show, which is tentatively scheduled to air Sunday, March 30th at 8/7c on ABC.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which has won back-to-back Emmy Awards as Best Reality Program (non-competitive), is in its 5th season on ABC. The program is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. Denise Cramsey is the executive producer; and David Goldberg is the president of Endemol USA.
