Genius.com Selects Akamai's Web Application Accelerator Service to Meet Aggressive Goals for Its On-Demand, Real-Time Sales and Marketing Solutions
Business Wire, March 25, 2008
Application Performance Improves on Average Greater Than 5X Globally without Infrastructure Investment
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading global service provider for accelerating content and applications online, today announced that Genius.com Incorporated[R], the leading on demand provider of real-time 1-to-1 marketing solutions for sales and marketing professionals and creator of SalesGenius[R], has selected Akamai's Web Application Accelerator(SM) service to extend market reach and optimize performance of its software-as-a-service offering. After implementing Akamai's services, Genius.com users worldwide experienced, on average, greater than 5X application performance improvement without infrastructure build out.
In January 2007, start-up Genius.com had validated its on demand solutions in the market. With one data center located in San Jose, California, Genius.com Vice President of Technical Operations Michael Myers knew that the company must deliver optimized performance and reliability of the on demand service to meet the aggressive growth targets established for the United States and Europe.
"We first looked at building data centers at $250,000 per location," said Myers. "That type of investment or lease arrangement didn't make good financial sense due to the global footprint of our customer base. We considered other application acceleration and content delivery solutions, but Akamai represented the best performance gains and fastest time to value for our global expansion needs."
Today, Genius.com is serving more than 30,000 users located in nearly 150 different countries.
Added Myers, "With Genius.com's focus on delighting the customer, Akamai has delivered very significant results for us, and we've been able to invest our resources in adding compelling feature sets instead of building and managing data centers all over the world."
In a separate release, Akamai announced it is delivering accelerated on demand applications to users in nearly 150 countries. (See release titled, "Akamai shares unique insight into global software-as-a-service transactions" dated today, March 25).
Akamai's Web Application Accelerator service leverages Akamai's globally-deployed platform to deliver consistent, improved application performance for enterprise customers. Akamai accelerates customers' dynamic Web applications using a number of unique techniques including dynamic mapping, route optimization, advanced communications protocols and connection optimization technology. The result is increased user adoption of applications for greater productivity and decreased support costs.
