MINNEAPOLIS -- PLATO Learning, Inc. "For years we had been struggling to find a solution that inspires our students to learn," said Harry Dickens, director of technology for Texarkana School District. "Although we knew we needed help to boost our students' test performance, finding the right framework for student engagement was key. PLATO Learning's products have a unique ability to attract participation and keep students' interest for extended time periods."

PLATO Test Packs with Prescriptions provide grade-level fixed benchmark assessments in reading/language arts and mathematics. Using assessment results, Texarkana can diagnose individual students' learning gaps and prescribe personalized learning paths to rich, dynamic and engaging PLATO([R]) instructional content targeting each student's unique areas of need--an ability no other provider in the market today can offer to school districts. PLATO Test Packs give teachers real-time, actionable data to guide intervention and daily classroom instruction.

Texarkana is also implementing PLATO Exam Intervention to identify skill gaps and target instruction to maximize students' performance, specifically for high-stakes exams. Students preparing for the Arkansas high-school exit exam, SAT([R]) or ACT([R]) can use learning paths aligned to state and national test blueprints to boost students' preparedness and high-stakes test performance.

Texarkana also emphasizes and encourages parent engagement with their PLATO Learning solution. While students complete homework assignments using the family computer, parents can now view student progress in real time using PLE, PLATO Learning's online learning management system.

"The response from parents so far has been tremendous," Dickens said. "Before we fully implemented the software, we had parents asking us how their children can use it at home. The solution is accessible to individuals of all levels--students, parents, teachers and administrators--across the entire district, eliminating any concerns we had about access."

"Texarkana School District's program for technology in the schools will make it practical for teachers to provide a high level personalized learning tailored to the needs of each student," said Mike Morache, president and CEO for PLATO Learning. "We are proud to partner with the Texarkana School District to facilitate their commitment to student academic growth and success."
