Society for Human Resource Management CEO Addresses National Association of Business Economics
Business Wire, March 3, 2008
ARLINGTON, Va. -- The workplace issues addressed daily by human resource professionals, including the current economic downturn, health care concerns and immigration, are the same issues topping the presidential election agenda this year.
Speaking today to the Washington Economic Policy Conference of the National Association of Business Economics, Susan Meisinger, President and CEO of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), pointed out that connection for an audience of academics, economists and corporate board members.
"The key issues we're seeing in this year's presidential campaign are the same issues that human resource professionals manage on the front line every day," said Meisinger. "Our members are concerned about our country's economic policies -- they're concerned because they know the direct impact those policies will have on our nation's workforce."
SHRM is furthering discussion of these critical issues as a co-sponsor of CNN's election coverage this year. It also produces the Leading Indicators of National Research (LINE) Report in conjunction with Rutgers University. The monthly LINE Report is the only directional index that measures both new-hire compensation and recruiting difficulty.
"What makes LINE unique is that it reflects employment changes that are already underway, while other economic indicators only predict what will happen in the coming month," said Meisinger. "This is why the LINE index can be released a full five weeks before the U.S. Labor Department's monthly data."
