Belgacom Selects ADTRAN for Carrier Ethernet Services
Business Wire, March 4, 2008
ADTRAN Solution Enables Migration to Business Ethernet Services
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Belgacom (Euronext Brussels: BELG), the Belgian incumbent operator, today announced that they have selected ADTRAN([R]), Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN) to supply Ethernet access lines on copper to their new Explore professional service platform. This will enable Belgacom to extend their business-class services availability to locations where their current fiber network is not present or where the current xDSL portfolio is not offering sufficient bandwidth for symmetric profiles.
"ADTRAN's recent investment in the European market and their leadership in business DSL services made them a perfect choice for this project," said Van De Velde Hendrik, currently responsible for Product and Solution Management of the Enterprise Business Unit of Belgacom. "Their Total Access([R]) and NetVanta([R]) product families will allow us to efficiently scale Ethernet symmetric services up to 8Mbps which immediately addresses today's business Ethernet services market, while minimizing our capital and operational investment."
"Ethernet over Copper (EoCu) is strategic for carriers, like Belgacom, whose customers must migrate from legacy to next-generation IP-compliant services but continue to demand existing business service features such as reliability and assured bandwidth," said Joe Manuele, ADTRAN managing director, EMEA.
