Dr. Stefan Winkler to Address IPTV Quality of Experience (QoE) as a Service Differentiator and IPTV QoE Monitoring to Maximize Customer Satisfaction
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Symmetricom, Inc. (NASDAQ:SYMM) today announced that Dr. Stefan Winkler, principal technologist for Symmetricom's QoE Assurance Division, will be a featured panelist and is also speaking at IPTV World Forum 2008, taking place in London on March 12-14. IPTV World Forum is a leading event for the IPTV industry, bringing together the industry's leading telecom and cable providers to discuss IPTV service deployment issues and how they will impact the future of the industry.
Dr. Winkler will be part of a panel entitled "Making Quality of Experience a Service Differentiator," chaired by Gary Schultz, Multimedia Research Group's president and founder. This panel will discuss video QoE (Quality of Experience) and address the importance of QoE as a critical measure of success for IP-based video services. In addition, Dr. Winkler will be speaking about "IPTV QoE Monitoring to Maximize Customer Satisfaction." During this presentation, Dr. Winkler will introduce QoE basics, contrasted against QoS (Quality of Service), and the various classifications of tools and metrics. This includes network metrics for traditional QoS, content metrics for picture quality, and hybrid metrics combining both approaches for meaningful QoE measurements. One of the world's top experts in digital media quality, Dr. Winkler serves as a principal technologist for the Quality of Experience (QoE) Assurance Division at Symmetricom. He was formerly chief scientist and co-founder of Genista Corporation, a provider of quality assurance solutions for IPTV and mobile media. He has also held assistant professor positions at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and has worked for Hewlett-Packard, Siemens, German Aerospace and Andersen Consulting. Dr. Winkler has published more than 40 papers on perceptual quality measurement and is the author of the book, "Digital Video Quality." He has also been a member and contributor of the Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG) since its founding in 1997. Dr. Winkler holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Technology in Vienna, Austria and a doctorate from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.
